So anyone who knows me, knows I love wine. As a self proclaimed aficionado and amateur Sommelier living an hour from the wine capital of America is heaven to me. The beauty of the Valley combined with the gorgeous vineyards, quaint restaurants and mountains creates quite the visual delight. So aside from just loving wine, I love the atmosphere of the valley. The valley in the fall is just stunning. The vineyards turn just like the leaves do so its fields of gold, red, orange and green vines going up the sides of the road or the mountain. Everywhere you look its fall beauty combined with gorgeous architecture of the wineries. So as a treat for our anniversary we spent the day in the valley visiting some of our favorite wineries. We grabbed a quick lunch bite at Gotts Roadside which is conveniently located right across the street from where we were going. Gotts is delicious- its a must stop food destination when in Napa. We split their special of the day which was grilled cheese and butternut squash soup. After lunch, we started the wine portion of our day with a private wine and cheese tasting at Merryvale Vineyards. Merryvale has one my absolute favorite Chardonnays. We were treated to a 5 course cheese and wine pairing and I Loved every bit of it. We had soft goat cheese, some brie, parmesan and even a blue cheese. Brian, though quite adventurous and with a refined food palate still hates blue cheese. I love it. I always have. Next up, we went to V. Sattui. We have been there before so we knew we would enjoy our selves. This particular Sunday though it was especially crowded. We did
a tasting at the bar and explored the grounds of the facility for a little bit. We also joined, this will make return tastings much more enjoyable as we will have access to the barrel rooms and private tastings so we will hopefully not be quite as crammed. We first visited last year for our anniversary when we flew out to Napa. How kismet that we live an hour from there now? Anyways, after V. Sattui we decided to stop at Mondavi and finish the day with a glass of wine and enjoy a charcuterie plate while watching the sun set over the vineyards.
